With world cup in tow, exciting times are here again. The cricket fervor is soaring high amidst all the ongoing world cup series. While some of the cricket buffs would go sit in stadiums to support their national teams and facing some real adrenaline rush, some would sit at home, popcorns in hands, biting nails and rooting for their teams in frenzy and excitement. Since all the Cricket aficionados are caught up supporting their national teams one way or the other, we have jotted down few of the best cricket movies the movie cinema had offered over a period of time.

1.     Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India(2001)

It’s easily one the best cricket movie Bollywood had to offer. The Mr. Perfectionist left no stone unturned to make the movie as thrilling and entertaining as possible, and oh boy, did he succeed in it.  The movie is set in British India, whereby the villagers have to stake their future on the basis of a cricket game. Amir Khan, who was essaying the lead role, and each character played in the movie were perfectly well defined and even though flawed (in the movie) one way or the other, were flawless.

2.     Iqbal (2005):

We all know Bollywood is synonymous with everything over-the-top, keeping a movie simple yet entertaining for the audience is one real feat. This movie Iqbal is exactly that. A simple, intelligent plot played brilliantly by Shreyas Talpade and Naseeruddin Shah. It’s the triumph of the underdog who has a passion for the game of cricket and seeks the tutelage of a washed-up, alcoholic ex-player. Personally, I loved the light hearted bickering between Naseeruddin Shah and Shewata Basu Parsad a lot.

3.     Ferrari Ki Sawari (2012):

Played by Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Ritvik Sahore, this movie is one of my personal favorites. It is the pursuit of an Indian cricket legend’s Ferrari makes a young boy’s dreams of playing cricket at Lords a reality and how a father can go to any extent to achieve that dream.A sweet feel good film with the right feels.

4.     Kai Po Chai(2013):

The film is based on Chetan Bhagats best seller The 3 Mistakes of My Life. Played By Sushant Singh Rajpoot, Rajkumar Rao and Amit sadh, the movie is three about friends growing up in India at the turn of the millennium set out to open a training academy to produce the country’s next cricket stars. The movie is about friendship, loss and forgiveness amidst the disturbingly yet engaging political backdrop that encompasses death and destruction.

5.     M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story(2016):

The movie is a tribute to the life of Mahender Singh Dhoni, and journey from ticket collector to trophy collector , the world-cup-winning captain of the Indian Cricket Team.Starring Sushant Singh Rajpoot, Kiara Advani and disha Patani in the lead role, the film is a must watch for every cricket lover because it aptly tells the tale of an extraordinary man. The struggles are real and so is Sushant’s acting.

Bottom-line:

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is currently underway in the United Kingdom and fans seem to be on cloud nine with their favorite cricket teams. Despite the impeccable craze for cricket, the number of cricket-based movies in Bollywood and regional cinema has been quite limited. The selected movies will definitely give cricket buffs the entertainment they need in such thrilling times
